After a 6-year hiatus, 10th KL hosted the “10th KL Dinner 2024” at the Chin Woo Stadium on 20 January 2024. The dinner was themed “Scouting for Life”, celebrating the lifelong commitment of 10th KL scouts to service and brotherhood, which are all guided by the Scout Promise and the 10 Scout Laws.
More than 300 old scouts gathered from near and far to reunite and rekindle memories of their scouting days, filling the event with camaraderie, brotherhood and the spirit of scouting. We were also joined by distinguished guests, such as the current school principals of MBSSKL and MBS Primary, ex-principals of MBSSKL who have showed tremendous support to the Group’s scouting activities, as well as representatives of the MBSSKL Parent Teacher Association and MBSSKL Alumni Association.
Booths were set up to showcase memorabilia from the recent World Scout Jamboree in Korea collected by 10th KL scouts, a photo booth to immortalise memories from the night, as well as a booth selling scarves, shirts and souvenirs from 10th KL.
The night started with the customary singing of the National Anthem, the MBSSKL school song, and the 10th KL Group song followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Tan Hoi Weng, 10th KL Group Committee Chairman, and Mr. Choo Yew Kuen, 10th KL Group Scout Leader. Guests were treated to a choir performance from the Boy Scout troop and a rendition of the Maori War Chant from the Senior Scouts, in addition to a scrumptious multi-course banquet dinner.
The highlight of the night belonged to the launch of two main items meticulously produced over the past few months. Firstly, 10th KL’s official website was officially launched with the domain www.10thkl.com, serving as a live archive of the Group’s activities, events and achievements of 10th KL. Photos, videos, write-ups and all the latest information about our campfires, dinners and events will be up on the website. One exciting section of the website is ‘From Boys to Men’, featuring 10th KL scouts and their journeys in life after scouting. The website was launched on the night with its first stories of 10th KL scouts who have gone on to become Malaysia’s military heroes.
The dinner was not complete without the launch of 10th KL’s history book, with years of interviews and research finally coming to fruition. Rohan Talalla, publication team lead, had the opportunity to introduce and launch the book with the entire publication team. The book was dedicated to Assistant Group Scout Leader, Lester Choo Chon Ming, who was also a member of the team before he sadly passed on, with a moment of silence observed in memory of him. Group Scout Leader, Mr. Choo Yew Kuen, accepted the handover of the book on behalf of 10th KL Air Scout Group from Rohan while Mr. John Toh, the current school principal of MBSSKL, received the first copies of the book, on behalf of the school. Copies of the book were then sold to guests as part of fundraising efforts for scout troop activities.
The dinner drew to a close for the night at about 9.30pm and was a success with the support of old scouts, guests and generous sponsors.
