On the 9th of February 2025, the 10th KL Air Scout Group went on a 3D2N camp at Port Dickson. This was the last group event for Scouting Year 2024, but it took place in February 2025 due to the delay in academic schedules.
Since around 2012, we had been organising our year end leisure camp annually without fail, until 2019 when the campsite at Pulau Pangkor was closed permanently. Then, the pandemic years had stopped us from camping out and everything needed a reset, including restrictions to organise an outdoor camp. Thankfully, this year we managed to restart the plan of having an annual leisure camp again! There were 9 Boy Scouts, 15 Senior Scouts, 3 Form 5s that had just finished their SPM examinations, 2 “Old Scouts” and 7 Scout Leaders, making it a total of 36 scouts that joined in the adventure.

On the first day, everyone gathered at KC Den extra early to help with the preparation of equipment. We moved out the camping gears and cooking utensils that were packed a week before. At 0815 hours, under instructions from the Patrol Leaders, all members helped transfer the equipment onto the bus systematically.
We then embarked on the journey in high spirits, chatting in hype along the way as we were ecstatic to be camping once more, after so many years. At around 1000 hours, we arrived at the campsite, and hard work began as we were combined into patrols to set up the planned area with tents, fly sheets, kitchen and quartermaster “store”. Lunch was served right when everyone had completed their tasks and feeling hungry. We then took a break under the shelter, just chilling and relax as the weather was blazing hot. Later, we were allowed to jump in the shallow areas for a cold dip, and had some patrol games along the shore. Dinner was then prepared with team effort, as we had simple but filling meals with our brother scouts all sitting around. Once we had washed our billycans and cleaned the kitchen, it’s the mandatory campfire night that happens in all our camps, but this time, it’s by the beach! The Scout Leaders taught us a couple of scout songs, and shared some interesting stories through their experience in scouting. Everyone joked and laughed, it’s all these simple, light moments that we cherished in camp.

The next morning, we Fall In for the Flag Ceremony, and conducted the regular morning exercise to kick off the day. After breakfast, we had Patrol Inspection to ensure the cleanliness of the campsite was well maintained. For the rest of the day, there was nothing much happening since the point of a leisure camp is for the scout members to relax and enjoy. Some were playing beach volleyball with a makeshift net that we tied, some were having a chat under the shelter as the weather remained scorching hot, and we also took time to discuss and rehearse on the sketch that we’re going to perform later in the campfire. When swimming time was finally announced, everyone ran to the shore to get a cold dip again. Once we’re done with dinner, it was campfire time again, with the highlight for the night being the sketches by every patrol. Everyone put on a fantastic show with mesmerising plots and ridiculously funny jokes. However, Echo patrol’s sketch was chosen as the best and they won a huge pack of snacks as the reward! We then shared the snacks, and did nothing much other than just sitting around, enjoying the sea breeze, while some of us took a stroll along the beach, just savouring the moment before we break camp the next day.

On the last day, we quickly had our breakfast and packed our things. We had ensured that the campsite was cleaner than it was before. Afterwards, we took a group photo to mark this occasion and commemorate the fun we had in this leisure camp. Surprisingly, we stumbled across a baby sea otter relaxing on the shore, which attracted lots of campers around. Soon the bus arrived and we loaded our equipment and headed back to school. All of us were exhausted and some slept in the bus (took pics of their goofy faces). At 1240 hours, we were back at the KC Den and that was the end of our trip. Overall, it was a wonderful experience which everyone cherished. In my opinion, I think this was the best camp I ever had.
